Ballet and tap

A first barre, a first pair of tap shoes and a short combination to learn.

Half the class is ballet: positions of the feet and arms, walking tall and a few steps across the floor. Half is tap: a shuffle, a stamp and a rhythm to clap back. Grown-ups wait in the lobby, and Nahla leads this class.

What a class is like

  1. 01

    At the barre

Dancers find first position, hold the barre and practice a plié together, slowly and with the music.

  2. 02

    Across the floor

Walking, skipping and a simple turn across the floor in a line, one at a time and all together.

  3. 03

    Tap rhythms

A shuffle, a stamp and a clap-back game on the wooden floor, in tap shoes.

  4. 04

    A short combination

A short routine to learn, step by step, and show to the class to finish.

What to wear and bring

A leotard or a plain top with leggings or a skirt, with ballet slippers. Tap shoes are bought after the first few classes, and we will tell you which kind.

  • Hair up and off the neck

  • A water bottle with a closing lid

  • Ballet slippers from the first class
